MSWord does NOT have this problem, and hasn't had it at any point in time that I am aware of. This is one reason I have not moved totally to OOo. It has been this way since the early days of OOo. I don't know how MS Office copes with this page, but it's not a trivial thing to get right.Īcknak wrote:Yes, well done this is a perfect example. Now, I'm not making excuses for Writer: this is a common task that should "just work", without requiring that people have a deep understanding of how HTML tables and Writer tables work. Eventually, you're left with plain, flowed text. You'll need to repeat that a couple of times, since each time only removes one "layer" of table.
The large outer table has tables inside it, holding the various parts of the page. The page you're looking at uses HTML tables for it's page layout. Yes, well done this is a perfect example. There must be a setting that can be changed to handle this. Is there a table or frame control setting that could be changed to allow long web pages to be pasted in one action, as in MS Word?Ĭhanging the format of the copied text would take many extra steps, and defeat the purpose of using OO seamlessly. MS Word handles copy and paste from webpages correctly, but OO does not yet. doc file, these paste correctly, automatically flowing over to the next page. Some kind of "table" control seems to be automatically invoked, or perhaps an html frame control from the webpage info, and this does not allow the text to automatically wrap over. If you delete the visible info, the rest of the information bumps up, so it is all there.Īlso, as another poster has said, OO displays extraneous blank first and third pages, and the text appears only on the second page. The rest of the copied info is there, but it does not appear on the succeeding pages, does not seem to "wrap" over. When I copy a text selection from any web page longer than one page in length, and paste directly into OO Writer, only one page of the information is displayed.
